YEMEN: THE ART OF THE MASTER BUILDERS
ZAMANA ART GALLERY, LONDON
24 JANUARY–18 MARCH 1990
Architects Pascal and Maria Maréchaux travelled for twelve years throughout Arabia and the Yemen. This series of Cibachrome prints provides a rare photographic record of a little-known traditional society.
The diversity of the local materials and the master builders’ exceptional artistry and skill have resulted in a rich variety of construction styles, often described as “architecture without architects”, from which valuable lessons can be drawn.
