LONDON GUILDHALL UNIVERSITY
21–25 FEBRUARY 2000
This is the first exhibition in London of a young Iranian photographer who lives and works in Tehran. Born in 1974, Shadafarin Ghadirian shoots portraits mainly in in her own studio. They explore women's hybrid identity as modern subjects.
Her remarkable sepia images draw on historical Qajar traditions as well as contemporary values, thus challenging our assumptions about the experience and desires of women living in the Muslim world. Shadi is also artist in residence at Delphina Studios throughout February 2000.
